"A tangled relationship with longing..." Interview with author Clane Hayward

by Andie Ryan

I had spent five or six years living in the Mission District in San Francisco amongst many artists, musicians and very creative inspiring people, and it was time for me to do something other than just hanging out having drinks and being witty. I started writing about my oldest memories because they were just so strange. I told my friend Ali, a stunningly gifted painter and singer, and a damned fine bartender, how easy it had been to write them and she pointed out that it's not easy for most people, and that maybe I should try on being a writer, so I said, okay, I'll pretend to be a writer. And I showed a story I really liked to another friend, and he read it very carefully, and he told me, “That needs to be a book.”

Interview With Dan Kennedy
by Andie Ryan

Dan Kennedy's rich imagination and unconventional career path have provided him with a wealth of material. In his riotous 2003 memoir Loser Goes First : My Thirty-Something Years of Dumb Luck and Minor Humiliation , he recounts his childhood fantasies of rock stardom, imagines romancing his “Dyan Cannon-esque” sixth grade homeroom teacher, and becomes obsessed with winning competitive fishing tournaments.

Interview With The Room's Juliette Danielle

The cult hit The Room is fast becoming the Rocky Horror of its generation. Originally released in 2003, the film quickly sank like a stone and seemed destined for obscurity…until it was discovered by a small but enthusiastic contingent of movie geeks and irony-loving hipsters. Since then, midnight screenings have been cropping up all over the country, attended by boisterous fans who dress up like the film's characters and act out scenes at the front of the theatre. Tommy Wiseau—the movie's writer, director, producer and star—has fully embraced the hype and even makes appearances at screenings to sign autographs and greet loyal “Roomies”, yet remains strangely tight-lipped about the film's production, script, and actors. So imagine our delight when Juliette Danielle— The Room 's leading lady—agreed to be interviewed for Praxis .

The Praxis Interview: Joshua Path
by Andie Ryan

These are people who should be dentists, accountants, etc. So I'd check out their shows, and all of their friends would be there, going absolutely crazy for their music - and the music was pretty crappy. And I'd be sitting there, scratching my head going, "Really? You like this? You think this is good? Okey dokey." Every so often I'd be asked to perform with one of these bands. For some reason I would. Though I'd be gritting my teeth the whole time.
